Call For Submissions:
At The Crossroads: Being Irish and Gay in America
The crossroads of Ireland are places of wild encounter, conversation, sensuality. Whether for storytelling, dancing, lovemaking, plotting rebellion or prayer...the crossroads represent the uninhibited Irish spirit.
Our crossroads anthology gathers the "forgotten" stories chronicaling voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Irish in America. Each of the 50 or so voices distinct, different and yet all sharing the common ground of ethnic and sexual identity.
Would you like to tell your story--to raise your voice...get your Irish up!?
All right,... so you're not Oscar Wilde, Emma Donoghue, Frank McCourt, Brendan Behan or Cathal O' Searcaigh...Find your own voice and sing your own tune!!
Spare us all the hackneyed truisms, the begobs and begorrahs! Find your own voice. Don't be shy or hesitant!
Irish by birth? Heritage? Adoption or affection? All are welcome....whether you are old, young, immigrant or exile, protestant, catholic, muslim...give us a shout!
The anthology will be divided into sections including AIDS, politics, arts, immigration, spirituality and activism.
Submissions are welcomed in Irish or English. Length should be no more than 2000 - 5000 words. Please send by November 1st to: Brendan Fay, 22-22 28th Street, Astoria, NY 11105-2702 You can also e-mail Brendan at brendan@lavenderandgreen.com
